Ingredients

Dough

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Filling

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small cabbage, shredded
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. 1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, yeast, and warm water. Mix well.
  2. 2. Add sugar, vegetable oil, and salt. Gradually add remaining flour to form a soft dough.
  3. 3. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled.
  4. 4. In a skillet, cook ground beef, cabbage, and onion until beef is browned and vegetables are tender. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. 5. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down dough and divide into 8 pieces. Roll each piece into a circle.
  6. 6. Place a portion of the filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold dough over filling and pinch edges to seal.
  7. 7. Place bierocks on a greased baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
