Ingredients 

Beignet Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Warm water
  • ¼ cup Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoon Active dry yeast
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar for dusting
  • 1 quart Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions 

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and vanilla extract to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
  3. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the dough rise for 1 hour.
  4. Heat oil in a frying pan to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to ¼ inch thickness. Cut into squares.
  6. Fry the dough squares in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  7. Remove beignets from oil and drain on paper towels. Dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.
